Unmasking ICE

If Federal agents come to your door, you deserve to know who they are.

We’ve been working on legislation to bring more transparency and accountability to how immigration enforcement is carried out in New Jersey and I’m proud to be part of that effort. New Jersey police officers work hard to gain the trust of the community, they don't need Federal agents working against them to instill distrust in our communities.

No one should have to wonder who is stopping them, questioning them, or detaining them. When officers operate without clear identification, it creates confusion, fear, and opens the door for bad actors to take advantage of that uncertainty.

This legislation sets basic standards: ensuring that law enforcement officers clearly identify themselves and are accountable to the public they serve. At the same time, it includes common-sense exceptions for undercover work, health, and emergency situations.

We need to protect New Jersey residents, strengthen trust, and make sure our communities feel safe when interacting with law enforcement.

We owe our communities nothing less.
